"The Whimsical Gardens" is the dream of John & Beverly Cannon

of Harrison, Ohio where for over 35 years they have been developing their 5 acre landscaped gardens.

John’s love for gardening began at the age of 14, when he began his landscape gardening apprenticeship at a large scale garden in Cincinnati. John's life-long passion for art got its official start about the same time, with four years of high school art classes.  After high school, he continued with studies in water color, charcoal, cartooning, photography and construction techniques while in the military (Navy Seabees).  Upon returning to civilian life, John completed an apprenticeship in cabinetmaking and antique furniture restoration which lead to development of his woodcarving skills and his membership in the Cincinnati Woodcarvers Guild.  John continued to gain construction experience as a finish carpenter and construction supervisor with a Cincinnati based contractor that worked in residential, commercial, and industrial construction.

Garden landscaping, construction, and his artwork had to share time with his return to the University of Cincinnati to obtain an Engineering Technology Degree.  This degree extended his career into both Engineering and Construction Management with a local company.  Upon retirement John returned full time to his passion for art and landscape gardening.  John's studies took him to  Dublin, Ohio where he completed a series of stone carving classes conducted by a master stone sculptor.

John’s continued love for both gardening and art has developed into a talent for creating original garden themed stone carvings.

John has demonstrated his sculpting skills and exhibited his art at past Ohio Renaissance Festivals, the Dublin Ohio Irish Festival, the Franklin County Indiana’s Antique Machinery Show, and MAC Art Shows in Miamitown Ohio, Metamora’s (Indiana)  "Voyage Through Time" and "Canal Days" Festivals, as well as the Harrison FCN Bank's  "Artist of the Month" Series.

John is an active member of the Midwest Art Consortium (MAC) and is continuing with his sculpture studies under professional sculpture John Leon of Evendale, Ohio.
